France: Owners of tobacconists wins first round against the Minister of health
The Senate rejected the Government proposal to deploy in may 2016 the Pack of cigarettes, which had manifested the owners of tobacconists.The proposal advanced by the Minister of health, Marisol Touraine, provided for the sale of cigarettes in packs without branding and advertising and with photographs unattractive to consumers, a measure included the modernization of the health system.The rejection of the proposal is not final, however, since it can be presented to the Senate in mid-September.According to the French Ministry of health, tobacco use is responsible for the deaths of 78,000 people, every year in the country.
