Garbage crisis ignites protests against the Government in Beirut

Thousands of people demonstrated Saturday in Beirut to demand the resignation of the Executive of the National Union and the calling of early elections.

At least 35 people were injured during the protest, after police used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.

The organizers of the protest, who shouted slogans of Arab revolutions against the authorities, started the install some tents in the center of Beirut, having summoned a new demonstration for Tuesday.

The crisis extends from the closure of the capital's main garbage dump, in July, and when the main Government coalition parties fail to reach an agreement to find a workaround.
