Monsoon season makes hundreds of deaths and affects millions in India and in Burma

More than 2200 fields were already prepared to receive the estimated 5 million displaced just in the region of West Bengal. More than 220 boats were deployed to that area in search and rescue missions.

In Burma, the official balance early evening Monday pointed to about 50 dead and more than 200 thousand people affected. The casualty figures could, however, rise significantly in the next few hours or even days.

The floods were quick and caught many people off guard. There are even reports of missing, but without having been in advance any number. The State of emergency was declared in at least four Burmese regions.
