Cologne police accused of trying to silence the aggressors

"If there were instructions from the Ministry of the Interior (State) to the police not to mention the origin of the perpetrantes, this means something very dangerous in socio-political terms."

More than a week after the wave of sexual assaults that were victims hundreds of women in cities such as Cologne, on new year's Eve, begin to emerge new details, notably about the work of the police. Many of the participants were, reportedly, refugees or foreign migrants.

At the same time, the German Interior Minister, Thomas de Mazière, condemned the recent attacks against foreigners, but also the sexist attitude of some migrants: "When people seeking asylum are insulted like cattle, when the refugee centres are burned, the politicians of this countr y labelled traitors and the press called a liar, or when asylum seekers call women whores crossing the street This is an unacceptable situation, "said the King.

One of the aspects that is generating more controversy is the alleged police attempt to hide the origin of the alleged attackers. The opposition SPD/Green Government of North Rhine-Westphalia does not spare criticism: "If there were instructions from the Ministry of the Interior (State) to the police not to mention the origin of the perpetrators, it meant something very dangerous in socio-political terms," said the Chairman of the CDU in the "land", Armin Laschet.

So far, police have identified 19 suspects, the majority of Moroccan nationality. The wave of attacks led to three concurrent events in Cologne. The most important was one in which hundreds of women asked, simply, security and respect. At the same time, there have been manifestations of extreme-right anti-immigration and anti-fascist groups.
