36 people died in a coal mine in Russia

The first gas explosion in the mine of Severnaïa, about 100 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, occurred on Thursday. The second was recorded Sunday.

Meanwhile, rescue operations were halted. Vorkoutaougol spokesman explained that "according to the Expert Council, the people that were in place at the time of the explosion, have no chance of survival".
