Index of Happiness in Portugal have seen better days

To reach the happiness index of each country, the study by Sustainable Development Solutions Network and the Earth Institute at Columbia University, took into account variables such as GDP per capita; the healthy life years expectancy; the social support of the community; the lack of corruption; the freedom to make decisions and generosity.

The results were disclosed this Wednesday, just a f ew days of the world day of Happiness which marks the March 20.

The first index of this type was published in 2012 within the framework of the United Nations Conference on happiness. Since then, and with the exception of last year, Denmark has been occupying the first place in the global ranking of happiness. The northern European country back this year to the top of the table, followed by Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Finland. The Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden complete the remaining positions of the top of the table. All in all seven of the ten best countries to live are in Europe. Below appears the United Kingdom ahead of France, Spain and Italy.

According to the study, there are countries where people are less happy. The case of Togo, Afghanistan, Benin and Rwanda.

Within a year, Portugal fell six places and occupies 94.ª position in the ranking of 2016. However, and according to the ranking drawn up by U.S. News World Report & portal, in partnership with the consulting company BAV Consulting and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania â€" released in January-that evaluates countries 60, Portugal appears in 23. A position to which contributed the national heritage.
