USA denounce "barbaric" murder of gay activist in Bangladesh

The spokesman for the u.s. State Department has classified the crime of a "barbaric attack".

Figurehead of the defence of the rights of homosexuals in Bangladesh, Xulhaz Mannan worked with the American Embassy in Dhaka, collaborating in particular with the United States Agency for international development.

The crime was committed by a group of men armed with melee weapons and authorities believe it was the latest in a series of murders against secular acti vists critical of religious fundamentalism in Bangladesh.

Last Saturday, the extremist group Islamic State claimed the killing in similar circumstances, a University professor in the city of Rajshahi in the West of the country.
