Hollande refuses to sign TTIP

"We impose our principles, in the context of these international negotiations. I'm talking about the health conditions, food, social, cultural and environmental. "

The France is refusing, for now, to sign the agreement of Transatlantic trade and investment Partnership (TTIP) between Europe and the United States.

The President Francois Hollande said he wouldn't sign the deal until they were given guarantees that the agriculture and social norms of the country. The position had already been shown by the Secretary of State for External Trade, Matthias Fekl, in charge of the negotiations.

"We impose our principles, in the context of these international negotiatio ns. I'm talking about the health conditions, food, social, cultural and environmental. We will never accept that the essential principles of our agriculture and our culture are called into question, on behalf of the reciprocity and access to public markets, "said Hollande.

Hollande's position is classified by some as a bluff, since the decision belongs to the European Commission and not the Member States. The French decision was taken after the latest revelations of the environmental organization Greenpeace, which opposes the agreement.
