Turkey: authorities detain participants of the Gay Pride March

At least 12 people have been detained by the authorities.

Since 2003 the parade takes place without incident, however, this year the authorities canceled the event citing public order fears.

The March was cancelled by City Council last week.

A German MEP participated in the event and claims that two elements of his delegation were detained by police.

"I have no idea why two people from our delegation, two German individuals, were arrested. They didn't do anything, they were just here, "said Volker Beck, a member of the Greens Party.

Recall that in recent months Istanbul was the target of several attacks attributed to Islamists and Kurds.
