Allies of Merkel gain an absolute majority in Bavaria

Conservatives allies of Chancellor Angela Merkel won with an absolute majority of the Bavarian regional elections.

According to polls at the mouth of the polls, the Christian Social Union led by Horst Seehofer, congener of Merkel's Christian Democratic Union in the largest federated state of Germany, won about 49 percent of the votes, i.e. 101 seats in the regional Parliament, reconquering the supermajority lost five years ago. A strong boost for the Chancellor, a legislative week.

The SPD social democrats rivals, led by the Mayor of Munich, Christian Ude, were up by 20 percent.

If this survey confirms the good chance Merkel to be re-elected for a third term, does not cease to worry conservatives about his coalition partner, the FDP.

The Liberals only won about 3 percent of the vote in Bavaria, leaving to be represented in the regional Parliament. If the weakening of the party for the next elections is confirmed Sunday, the Chancellor will be forced to find a new partner.
