German Gays call for boycott of the Sochi games

In Berlin, about 2000 members of the gay community were to call for a boycott of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, in Russia, because of laws considered homophobic. The Duma passed a law forbidding homosexual propaganda, supposedly to protect children, but the text is seen as an appeal to discrimination and has led to a wave of protests far beyond Russian borders."We're here because we're humans and we believe that in 2013, human rights must be defended everywhere on this planet," says the TV host Alfonso Pantisano, who participated in the protest.Another gay activist, who uses the stage name "Gloria Viagra Boydrag", adds: "support for a boycott of the Olympic Games and also an exclusion of the Russian team. Bearing in mind that these games were organized in Beijing and now in Russia, I think it is time to run with these old faces from the International Olympic Committee ".Putin's policy against homosexuals has led several members of the community, including artists, into exile in other countries.
