According to the authorities, the victims were part of a group of about 200 illegal immigrants who poured the waters during the night.

The Moroccan maritime police managed to detain about 150 people. Thirteen immigrants were rescued from the waters alive.

Moroccan rescue teams continue to patrol the waters.

The Italian Navy announced the rescue of more than a thousand and one hundred illegal immigrants on board two ships bound for Europe.

The ships were detected on Wednesday night.

Recall that last October, Eritrean immigrants from 366 drowned off the Italian island of Lampedusa.

In 2013 the arrivals of illegal immigrants to Europe by sea have tripled for 2012 due to conflicts in Syria and around the Horn of Africa.
