Pope Francis throws warning for the planet

"Humanity is called to become aware of the need for lifestyle changes, of production and consumption"

Pope Francis presents encyclical dedicated for the environment

The Supreme Pontiff calls for shared responsibility in protecting the planet, "which is being destroyed". This is the first time that a Pope makes an encyclical about environmental issues, recognizing them as "a very important challenge for humanity".

In January, during a pastoral visit to the Philippines, Francisco demonstrated concern for ecology, claiming that there was a "need to see with the eyes of faith, the beauty of the plan of salvation of God, the connection between the natural environment and the dignity of the human person".

The new encyclical of Pope is inspired by the Canticle of the creatures, St. Francis of Assisi, who, in 1979, Pope John Paul II proclaimed patron of Ecologists.
