Israel chafes at European labels of settlements

The European Union approved the labels on the products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, a measure that was immediately criticized by Israel.

The EU considers a measure "technique" to inform European consumers, not a "political" decision as stated by the Israeli Government.

"This is a technical issue and not a politician. Products originating in Israel, within its internationally recognized borders benefit from a preferential tariff treatment when entering the European Union. The situation will not change. The EU supports any boycott or sanctions against Israel ", Valdis Dombrovskis announced, European Commissioner for the Euro and the Social Dialogue.

Israel immediately criticized the announcement of the European Commission and convened the EU country representative.
