A400M Airbus delivered to the French air force

The smiles of European leaders in the delivery of the first unit of a new military transport plane to France not hid the four years late and a slippage of 5 billion euros.

The A400M has begun to be planned for thirty years and was built by Airbus Military to respond to the needs of seven NATO countries: Germany, Belgium, France, Spain, Great Britain, Luxembourg and Turkey.

In Seville, the French Defence Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, received the keys to the plane. "To receive a whole new plane in the air force is a rare event for a Minister of Defense. The last time that happened was 13 years, "he said.

The total cost was at least 25 billion euros, but the project partners hope to collect "royalties" to compensate for the expense. The recent decision by Boeing to stop production of the C17 can play in favour of the A400M that already has more than 170 units ordered.

Austria: "central block" loses but survives

As expected, the "central block" dominating Austrian politics since World War II saw their vote drop but is moving towards new absolute majority. "Coalition loses but survives," writes a paper this morning. The SPÖ 's Socialists were the most voted and although the coalition has obtained the worst results in more than 60 years, falling together more than four percent, the Chancellor Werner Faymann has all conditions to renew the Government with the Conservatives and assured that "what was true before the elections, continues to be true" and that it will be possible to "build a Government be the FPÖ", the extreme right-wing party.

The Conservatives of the ÖVP, the people's Party, also paid the price at the polls a mandate marked by corruption scandals and infighting that has prevented the implementation of reforms, including reform of the pension system and education.

The big winner of the laws was Heinz-Christian Strache, the leader of the anti-immigration and European anti-Union FPÖ, which saw the far-right party exceed the 20% and be virtually glued to the conservatives.

Other winners of the night was the NEOS, a liberal party created last year that managed to enter the Parliament by luring the young vote with promises of more Europe and lower pensions. Parliament also comes the Eurosceptic austro-Canadian magnate Frank Stronach that prevented a better result on the extreme right.

Austria: Social Democrats and conservatives looking for new term

6.4 million Austrians vote today on legislation that should, according to the polls, renew the grand coalition between Social Democrats and conservatives.

But after five years marked by corruption scandals and internal disputes, the Alliance, led by social democrat, Freymann, may be Weyner obligated to host a third party.

Four years ago, the Danish Social Democrats in the SPO and the conservative OVP got 55% of the vote, a result that now seems unlikely.

If the majority is not reached this time, the Greens will be the new partners more likely. The party made a campaign focused on the fight against corruption. Polls give him about 14% of the vote. The leader, Eva Glawischnig, already made it known that she's willing to take on the Ministry of the environment.

But we have to tell the new small liberal party "Neos" which, if you get the 4 percent needed to enter Parliament, could become a potential coalition partner.

In a campaign bit enthusiast, the far right managed to gain new impetus. The FPÖ of Heinz Christian Strache should be confirmed as a third political force, credited with about 20 percent of the vote.

Serbia: Gay Pride March banned in Belgrade

The Serbian authorities decided to prohibit, for the third consecutive year, the Gay Pride March, scheduled for Saturday in Belgrade.

The Government invokes security reasons. After being known the decision, groups of gay rights activists left the street, last night, in the capital of Serbia in protest.

To Brussels, this is a negative signal to a country that waits for the accession to the Union. Before being known the authorities ' decision, the head of the European delegation in Belgrade had asserted that "allow the Gay Pride would be an opportunity for Serbia to send a message in time of negotiations and an opportunity to show to Europe and to the world its commitment to the values of society."

But these arguments were not sufficient. The authorities in Belgrade are evocative of the events of 2010, when the violence provoked by extremists hostile to gay pride, left more than 150 wounded, mostly policemen, and damage worth more than a million euros in the city.

Journalist describes situation in Kenya

The journalist Mike Pflanz described on Euronews the mood in Nairobi in Kenya.

MP: "right now, the siege at the Mall, there are still tens, maybe even hundreds of hidden people in shops, cafes and banks inside the building. Saw Kenyan army units-one of the more specialized to enter the Mall. I believe that other units may join in this operation in an attempt to stop the attackers, and that will surely be hampered by crossfire. At this point not hear gunfire, but the atmosphere is tense. There are people who are still being released, many of the wounded were transported to the hospital. “

Euronews: believes that, at the moment we are in a final phase of the operation?

"It is very difficult to say. The fact that we heard shots recently may indicate that there is no violence, no matter what may be happening inside. But it can also indicate that the men were cornered and that was the information that was given to me by an officer. The situation is not clear and the police still don't control the commercial centre. We're talking about five floors. In the basement there is also a parking lot. I'd say there are probably 20 stores on each floor. If you look at the building from the lobby will see three storeys with shops and balconies where several people can have hidden safely, as the attackers. We're not sure of the number of armed men who entered the Mall. Will be therefore difficult to know whether all were arrested and when security conditions will be reunited.

I heard different testimonies. A that the attackers asked the Muslims to stand up and abandon the site. To prove that they were Muslims had to say the name of the mother of the Prophet. Those who answered correctly were released, others remain trapped inside.

Swiss vote "Yes" or "no" to compulsory military service

There are 200 years that Switzerland did not enter into a war. Faced with this and other arguments, the Swiss will countersign, once again this Sunday, the "Yes" or "no" to compulsory military service in one of the richest countries in the world and recognized by the international neutrality.

The referendum initiative broke the GSOA, the "Group for a Switzerland without an army". The goal: reduce the Swiss military contingent, which is currently of 150 thousand troops, between men and women. The vaults of Switzerland, the military cost six per cent of the current federal budget and, despite the small geographical size of the country, represent a superior force, for example, those of Austria, Belgium, Sweden, Norway or Finland.

The initiative to demilitarise the Switzerland is far, however, the consensus among citizens and political class. Even before the argument from absence of direct threats to the country, the Swiss Minister of Defense proves to be an enthusiast of the compulsory military service. "An army of volunteers would be worse than the compulsory military service. It would be more expensive, less competent and would not guarantee our security. We don't know if there would be or how many of them would volunteer for military service. We need a must for our military service ", defended Ueli Maurer.

There are only six countries in the European Union (EU) with compulsory military service. Them added to Switzerland and Norway. In Denmark, is optional. Seventeen countries, including 28 of the EU, already abolished compulsory military service in Portugal in 2003, after the passage of the law in 1999 â€" the discussion, however, resurfaced this year within the Portuguese Armed Forces.

In the Swiss case, the discussion is not new and returned to gain strength through the GSOA. For them, the military forces are too expensive and cause inequalities between those who are and those who do not do not enter. Those who are physically and mentally-approved, dedicated to military service 18 to 21 weeks-they are three weeks per year, for a total of 260 days. To Josef Lang, the GSOA, there's no question: "If some traditions are obsolete and cost too much, we have to shut them down."

How is the law, currently, the Swiss are obliged to fulfill his military service until the 34 years. Among the Defense arguments of the obligation is the discipline that teaches and service that can be used in professional life. Companies, however, are beginning to support the "no" because they don't want to see themselves deprived of employees for nine months. The discussion is on the table and at the mouth of the Swiss urns. This Sunday, make up your mind, then, the "Yes" or "no" to military service compulsory in Switzerland Confederation.
